‘When merging in traffic, don’t slow down or even worse STOP. When you stop, you lose all momentum and relinquish all control of the situation and have to wait for someone else to stop to let you in or a break in traffic. You will find much more effective to speed up or at least match the speed of the main flow of traffic and simply merge into place. “No fuss no muss”
This is not just an issue of traffic patterns. It’s like so many other things in life.
If you find yourself at a party or meet-up, you must merge into the action and/or conversations. If you just show up and stand in the corner waiting for someone to come over and involve you, you will most likely, that won’t happen, and you will just go home thinking it was a waste of your time, and you would be correct. What if someone does come over and force your participation and include you into the situation? Now you are tied to a state of submissive to that person for, at minimum, the rest of the night. He/She is now in control of your evening. However, if you can “merge” your way in by speeding up or matching the flow of the event, you are in control and are the master of your own evening.
The same is true in business. Often, in times of transition, it feels natural to want to stop, take inventory of the situation and wait for the opportunity to change paths. Most likely, this will only lead to stagnancy and paralysis.
Take control of the situation, adjust your speed and direction making adjustments as you go, and you should have no problems reaching the intended destination.
